There would be no LP Gas shortage in the country beginning 1 August 2022, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said, adding that he gave this assurance to the Cabinet of Ministers.
Addressing the weekly Cabinet briefing yesterday, he said the Government has already made every effort to avoid a gas shortage.
“By the end of December, LP Gas queues will be eliminated. As a result, Litro Lanka has stated that people will be able to obtain gas without any problem beginning 1 August. In the midst of a severe economic crisis and hardship, the Government is making every effort to meet and make arrangements for daily cooking activities, to run small and medium-sized businesses, and to provide the necessary gas,” he noted.
Meanwhile, he said there is a serious problem with fuel because it is the State’s largest expenditure at the moment.
He noted that while fuel purchases were estimated to cost USD 6.7 billion in 2022, the cost of importing fuel had increased by USD 4 billion, adding that such an increase would be difficult for a small economy like Sri Lanka to bear.
