Emergency Law to be debated in Parliament tomorrow

Parliament is scheduled to convene at 10:00 am tomorrow (27), during which the ongoing state of emergency will be debated.

The matter is anticipated to be taken up for debate until 04:30 pm, as if the emergency law is not approved by the Parliament within two weeks of its implementation, it will be revoked.

The proclamation on the state of emergency was declared by then Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Public Security Ordinance, through the Special Gazette No.2288/30 dated 17 July, which, according to legal provisions, if not approved by the Parliament within 14 days, will be cancelled.
