Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardane assumed duties at the Prime Minister’s Office, yesterday (25).
Gunawardena was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka on 22 July becoming the country’s 27th Prime Minister.
Gunawardena, 73-year-old politician, is a veteran member of the ruling Sri Lanka People’s Front, took the oath of office on Friday before President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was elevated to President from his role as Prime Minister by a vote in Parliament on Wednesday.
He earlier served as the Foreign Minister and Education Minister. He was appointed as Home Minister in April by then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
