Landmine injures de-mining org employee


An international de-mining organisation employee, working in the Muhamalai area of Kilinochchi, was injured in a landmine explosion and was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on 23 July.

When the victim went to wash his hands before lunch, he noticed something suspicious and attempted to pick it up, but it exploded and he was severely injured. He suffered serious injuries to his face and neck as a result of the explosion of the bomb in his hand.

The victim was identified as a local employee of ‘HelloTrust,’ an international demining organisation.

He was taken to Kilinochchi Palai Hospital, where his condition was critical. He was later transferred to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Palai Police are investigating the incident.
