Drastic drop in Expressways income

As a result of the fuel and economic crises, the daily income of expressways has decreased by Rs 22 million, which is 70 per cent of its normal income, Director General of Road Development Authority (RDA) S. Weerakoon said.

He said that on a normal day, the expressways’ daily income was more than Rs 30 million, but that this has now dropped to Rs 8 million and the reason could be that many people use public transportation instead of their private vehicles.

The director general said the decrease in income could be seen over the last few months and that it had dropped very quickly last month, because employees from government offices and private companies report to work via the road system.
