General Kamal Gunaratne was re-appointed as the Secretary to the Defence Ministry on Friday (22) by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He was first appointed as the Secretary of the Defence Ministry in November 2019, by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
General Gunaratne was the General Officer Commanding of the 53 Division from April 2008 to July 2009. He served as the Commander of the Security Forces Headquarters (SFHQ) Wanni.
He also served as the Deputy Ambassador in Brazil from 2012 to 2015.
After retiring from active military service in 2016, he held top posts in the private sector and has authored books based on his 35-year experience in the military.
