Skincare is something that I’m sure you may already be following, and so would personal grooming. It’s always important to be well groomed, looking your best, and dressed in a way that’s appropriate, comfortable and personal to your own sense of style. But there is a major problem. All this effort taken to preserve external beauty shouldn’t be an outside-inside operation alone. It has to be more holistic and complete.

It goes without saying, how you treat your body and what you choose to do with it is a very personal choice. It’s great to be comfortable with your own skin, and your physique. Nevertheless, having the passion to improve yourself and keep reaching for your true potential isn’t something that you should let go. This could be physical, spiritual, educational or any other aspect of your life.

However, right now, we’re talking about the importance of taking care of yourself in order to bring the inner beauty of yourself, out to the world, which is what skincare and makeup is supposed to do.

Of course, this is no easy task. What must be done? You might ask. Well, here are somethings that can help you get the radiant, glowing skin that you desire from the inside out, instead of having to rely on covering up everything.

There is no makeup in the world that is capable of concealing negligence in taking care of yourself. People almost subconsciously sense it, and your actions and words will betray you even before your appearance will.

It is my belief that anyone who would want to take care of their skin would also want to take care of themselves. But there might be the rare exceptions. In any case, a reminder is deemed necessary that before you start taking care of your skin, you should be taking care of yourself.

This includes getting adequate rest and sleep, taking time to manage stress (something we should all be practicing given the circumstances), maintaining healthy relationships, having proper nutrition, maintaining good health and exercising appropriately and regularly.

What do I mean by this?

From the brittle hair as a result of stress and lack of quality sleep, to having numerous health complications as age catches up, there’s only so much that makeup can do to hide what our bodies are signalling to us. And by having the basics right, our bodies naturally obtain that healthy, glamorous glow we want to emphasise using our various cosmetic products. The firmer the foundations, the more you have to work with.

Does this mean we have to hold ourselves to unhealthy and unrealistic standards? Absolutely not. Neither should it mean feeling bad about who you are and where you are in your journey towards your ideal you. It’s about wanting the best for yourself, and understanding your strengths and weaknesses in the process.

But it also means taking accountability for ourselves, desiring to improve and taking action. Before long, I’m sure you will both look and feel amazing about yourself even without makeup or anything else that you might have felt necessary to enhance yourself. Make yourself a great canvas to work with, and surely, the painting will be exquisite as well.
