US Ambassador Julie Chung said the US is looking forward to working with new President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
President Wickremesinghe was elected during a turbulent period that began with the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who left the country after naming Wickremesinghe as acting President.
The US Envoy tweeted, “In these challenging times, it will be essential for all parties to redouble efforts to work together to tackle the economic crisis, uphold democracy and accountability, and build a stable and secure future for all Sri Lankans.
Following President Rajapaksa’s resignation the Ambassador urged all parties to work together, ensure the rule of law is upheld, and find solutions to the economic crisis and that the US remains committed to the democratic aspirations of the Sri Lankan people.
