Sri Lanka Cricket Club (SLCC) women’s team (Lionesses) made Sri Lanka proud by emerging Hong Kong Div 2 Women’s Cricket T20 champions beating Craigengower Cricket Club (CCC) in the final recently. The league was organized by Cricket Hong Kong.
Comprising a group of freshers who were introduced to the game only 7 months ago, the Lionesses were able to hold their heads up high and create a unique record by winning the championship. In addition, they remained unbeaten during the 2021-22 season.
SLCC’s Founder/Chairman and Head coach Chandrin J. Dissanayake, an old boy of D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo, played cricket for his school, and subsequently went on to represent Hong Kong. He is a silent contributor for his community and society in general.
According to Chandrin, he feels that a number of players from his team have the potential of representing Hong Kong, and he intends to expand the squad, since SLCC would be promoted to Div 1 from next season.
He also added that at a time people of Sri Lanka are going through an economic turmoil and undergoing much hardship, this achievement of SLCC would help keep the Sri Lankan flag flying high at a very difficult time.
