Saman Ekanayake appointed Secy to President


Saman Ekanayake was yesterday (21) appointed as the Secretary to the President.

The President’s Media Unit announced his appointment shortly after Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as the President.

Ekanayake served as the Secretary to Wickremesinghe when he was appointed as the Prime Minister on 12 May, after former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s resignation.

He had served as Secretary to Wickremesinghe when the latter was the Prime Minister during the Yahapalana Government.

Ekanayake is a Special Grade Retired Officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, with a career spanning 30 years. 

Ekanayake previously served as the Secretary to Ministries of Youth Affairs, Housing, Media, Foreign Affairs and Finance. He also had stints at Sri Lanka High Commissions in UK and Malaysia. Ekanayake has also served as the UN-HABITAT Sri Lanka Programme Officer.

He is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya.
