Ammo found in private land in K’nochchi


Kilinochchi Police yesterday (21) said that explosives were found in a private land in Kanakambikaikulam area in Kilinochchi.

The owner had found the explosives while clearing the land for crop cultivation and informed the Kilinochchi Police.

Kilinochchi Police informed the Special Task Force (STF). The latter found the cache of explosives in the land. According to Police, Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) bullets, magazines and tear gas canisters were among the explosives. Kilinochchi Police defused  the explosives.

In another development, two students from Yaladenna, Kandy drowned when they had gone for a swim in the lake close to the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre, Peradeniya Police said yesterday. The incident had occurred on the evening of 20 July. The victims had gone without anyone’s knowledge. A bystander who witnessed the incident had informed the Police. Peradeniya Police rushed to the scene and found the bodies which were then sent to the Teaching Hospital Peradeniya for autopsy.

The victims were 17-year-old Subhramaniam Viswa and Mohammed Arafath, residents of  Yaladenna, Kandy, Peradeniya  Police said.
