73-year-old meets with untimely death

A woman from Damunupola, Polgahawela was killed on 20 July while she was alone at home and her belongings were stolen.

According to Police the victim was alone at home, when the thief broke into the house. He had killed her and robbed Rs 15,000 in cash and a laptop valued at Rs 75,000. He had also removed the pair of earrings she was wearing at the time.

The deceased was identified as a 73-year-old resident of Damunupola, Yatigaloluwa. Her daughter found her mother dead, when she got home after work in the evening, Police said.

The suspect has been identified. Polgahawela Police are conducting investigations to arrest the suspect.

 Thief breaks into clothes warehouse

A 41-year-old resident of Pannipitiya had broken into a clothes warehouse in Maharagama and stolen ready-made garments worth Rs 2.5 million.

Maharagama Police arrested the suspect. At the time of the arrest he was in the possession of over 5mg of heroin. Police also found the stolen garments, a water motor, 2 tyres and Rs 170,850 in cash he had obtained by selling the stolen garments.
