Tankers not summoned for fuel distribution

Secretary of the Ceylon Petroleum Private Tanker Owners’ Association, Shantha Silva said the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) did not request them to collect fuel for distribution today (21) as planned.

He said despite numerous public announcements to distribute fuel today (21), the reason as to why the CPC did not summon them to collect fuel for distribution is unknown.

Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera said two diesel shipments were unloaded in Colombo on 18 July and that one more diesel shipment is scheduled to be unloaded. While saying that one petrol shipment was undergoing quality sampling on 18 July, he said discharging will begin on 19 July.

However, he also said Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals LTD (CPSTL) will begin train and truck deliveries to the rural depots on 19 July.

People, on the other hand, continue to queue for fuel. Long lines were seen near filling stations on 19 and 20 July, compared to previous days. On some major roads, one lane was visibly blocked.
