Aragalaya to continue

Protesters at GotaGoGama said the ‘aragalaya’ will continue against the newly appointed President Ranil Wickremesinghe, while demanding a people’s council with focus on people’s power instead of the current electoral system.

Addressing the media yesterday (20), Father Jeevantha Peiris noted the main purpose of the protest was for the appointment of a non-corrupt ruler who will bring clear political and economic stability to Sri Lanka and they will not stop until it was fulfilled.

“In our action plan that was submitted on 5 July, our second demand was the resignation of Wickremesinghe. But now he has been appointed as President, against the will of the public. Wickremesinghe was brought to power by the Rajapaksa regime in order to safeguard themselves and their brutal system. Therefore, we confirm that the peaceful protests will continue till we combat Wickremesinghe and his corrupt system,” he added.
