The Ministry of Education has decided to reopen all presently closed Government and Government-approved private schools on Monday, 25 July.
The guidelines for resuming in-person lessons in schools have been distributed to the Provincial Secretaries of Education, Provincial Directors of Education, Zonal Directors of Education, and Deputy/Additional Directors of Education Divisions.
They made this decision after considering the difficulties in securing transportation facilities due to the present fuel crisis.
Previously, the schools were scheduled to reopen on 21 July. The Education Ministry announced on 3 July that all Government and Government-approved private schools would be closed from 4 to 8 July due to the fuel crisis. Following this, on 9 July, the Ministry announced that all government and Government-approved schools will be closed islandwide from 11 to 15 July.
According to the Ministry, schools were scheduled to reopen for the new school year on 18 July. Following that, on 15 July, the Education Ministry announced that schools would remain closed until 21 July. All Government and Government-approved private schools have been closed for nearly a month as a result of this announcement.
