Chairman of the All Island Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Association Lalith Dharmasekera said prior to carrying out any revision of three-wheeler fares, the Government should implement a proper mechanism to regulate the industry.
He urged the Transport Ministry to initiate a new monitoring system for three-wheelers as there are allegations that three-wheeler drivers are engaging in a ‘fuel mafia’ at the moment. Dharmasekara said it is also difficult to identify private three-wheelers from professional three-wheelers as well.
He charged that despite repeated requests the Transport Ministry with regard to these problems, the authorities have failed to take any actions.
