Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said he decided to withdraw from the Presidential race for the good of the people of the country and he would dedicate himself to introduce a new political culture.
He said this at a media briefing in Parliament, after nominating MP Dullas Alahapperuma for the Presidency yesterday (19). Premadasa and Alahapperuma, who met on Monday (18), reached a consensus with regard to the posts of President and Prime Minister.
Alahapperuma said compromises will be made and pledged they are dedicated to bettering the lives of the people.
Premadasa said this decision was taken considering the democratic rights of the people, especially to reinforce the 19th Amendment and to strengthen the country economically and socially. He said they had the aspirations of the people in mind.
