The Ministry of Power and Energy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport has decided to provide a fuel quota based on mileage for buses licensed by transport regulatory bodies and engaged in public transportation.
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera was requested to prioritise public transport in the distribution of fuel stocks, and Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena said the public will be able to reduce the demand for fuel by using public transportation.
Gunawardena also directed Transport Ministry officials and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to provide fuel to private buses islandwide in a more efficient manner. It was also decided to provide fuel from SLTB depots and identified fuel stations for buses with road permits, as well as fuel from depots for buses at other filling stations.
