Interim Govt must be formed – AKD

Jathika Jana Balawegaya (JJB) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said no matter who is elected as the President today (20), a short-term Interim Government must be formed.

He said such an Interim Government should only consist of a maximum of 10 Cabinet Ministers.

Speaking to the media yesterday (19) at JVP Headquarters, Dissanayake alleged that Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe or MP Dullas Alahapperuma would never make public statements regarding the above proposal, as they are both afraid of losing votes today (20).

He said, as most of the MPs are hoping to stay in Parliament for the next three years, they would not agree on a short-term Government.

Dissanayake also demanded that the new President, Prime Minister, MPs and all the Government top officials should be given only their basic salary without any other special privileges.

“Ranil Wickremesinghe would not dare make these suggestions. He is ready to give compensation to some of the MPs to bag votes. However, if the JJB is given the chance we will make these changes. If for some reason I am not chosen as the President, the one who is chosen must make these changes immediately,” he said.

He also proposed that there should be some kind of a mechanism to ascertain whether the authorities are indeed fulfilling the expectations of the common people.

He said the JJB will always be on the side of the people.
