TUs threaten mass protests

The Trade Union Coordination Centre and the Combined People’s Movement said that if Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe is elected as the new President with effect from 20 July, they will resort to massive countrywide trade union action from the following day.

The two trade unions alleged that the Acting President is known to be like the ghosts of the Rajapaksa clan.

They warned that in the event the UNP Leader is elected as the new President they will stage an uninterrupted protest movement nationwide akin to the one which ousted President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during the past week.
