Suspect nabbed with teargas canisters remanded


Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday (18) ordered a suspect, charged by the Welikada Police, with concealing 50 teargas canisters, which had been stolen by protesters, after assaulting the security forces personnel at Polduwa Junction on 13 July, to be produced before an identification parade.

The Court ordered the suspect to be remanded till 1 August and instructed the Director of Prisons Department, to produce the suspect before the identification parade, on that date.

The suspect, a mason by profession, temporarily residing at Gothami Road in Borella, is a permanent resident of Polonnaruwa.

Officers attached to Welikada Police, had nabbed the suspect and seized the teargas canisters hidden at a house situated in Obeysekerapura, on 17 July.
