St. Peter’s take overall lead of 123 runs


St. Peter’s took an overall lead of 123 runs against St. Joseph’s on day one of their 88th ‘Battle of the Saints’ at P. Sara Oval Stadium yesterday.

St. Peter’s won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 251 runs for 8 wickets in 60 overs. Left hand top order Shenal Boteju scored 81 runs in 136 deliveries with 10 boundaries and a six, while left hand middle order Danal Hemananda scored an unbeaten 55 runs in 58 balls with 2 boundaries and 2 sixes. Sanshay Gunatilake (47), Nimuthu Gunawardana (36) and Rusanda Gamage (13) helped to build their inning.

Danal Hemananda and Sanshay Gunatilake were involved in 79 runs stand for the 8th wicket. Skipper and youth cap Shevon Daniel and youth cap Dunith Wellalage claimed 3 wickets each.

St. Joseph’s were bowled out for 163 runs in 45.1 overs. Skipper Shevon Daniel scored 71 runs in 93 balls with 7 boundaries and 4 sixes. Dunith Wellalage (36), Sadeesh Jayawardene (15) and Lahiru Amarasekara (11) helped to build their inning. Youth cap and skipper Wanuja Sahan claimed 4 for 63 runs, while Shenon Rodrigo claimed 3 for 26 runs.
