SLPP won’t mark second preference

SLPP MP Sanjeewa Edirimanne said his party has decided not to mark the second preference during the secret vote, to be held in Parliament, to elect a new President on 20 July.

He stated that a discussion to this effect had been held on 18 July and he noted that the top brass of the party had informed the party MPs that there will not be any necessity to mark a second preference during the vote.

Edirimanne added that as had been revealed previously by party General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam the majority of MPs of the SLPP will be casting their vote to Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe during the secret vote in the House.
