Manipay Police said a person who attempted to cross a railway crossing near Jaffna Manipay Hindu College was killed after being hit by a train.
The Colombo-Kankesanturai train was involved in the incident.
The deceased is 59-year-old Sinnathambi Mahendraparasa, a resident of Ottumadam, Manipay.
His remains were placed at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
