Electronic Media ordered to hand over footage

Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela, yesterday (18) ordered the heads of electronic media outlets to hand over unedited video footage taken during the anti-Government protest at Polduwa Junction on 13 July, to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

On 13 July, a tense situation erupted between Sri Lanka Army soldiers and a group of protesters near the entrance road to Parliament.

The Additional Magistrate gave his order, having considered submissions made to him by the CCD.

The CCD stated, in its submissions, that in the said incident two Army soldiers had been badly beaten up whilst 30 live rounds of ammunition and two T-56 rifles had been stolen from them.

Accordingly Magistrate Kekunawela instructed the relevant heads of electronic media institutions, to submit uncensored videos of the said incident to the CCD.
