Shares recover


Following the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Thursday (14) which was confirmed on Friday (15) the Colombo Stock Exchange posted some recovery from its previous day losses on low turnover with continued foreign entry into the Bourse.

The benchmark All Share Price Index, which started the day at 7,318.24 points on Friday (15), gained 2.04per cent (149.58 points) to close the day at 7,467.82 points.

The S&P SL20, representing the top 20 companies traded on Colombo Bourse, which started at 2,337.22 points, gained 2.69 per cent (62.94 points) to close at 2,400.17 points. The Colombo Stock Exchange saw a daily turnover of Rs 1.1 billion on Friday (15), higher than Rs 625 million recorded the previous day.

The Colombo Bourse witnessed a foreign inflow worth Rs 7 million on Friday (15) as foreigners purchased shares worth Rs 21 million, as against sales worth Rs 14 million.  More than 66.4 million shares changed hands on Friday (15) during 13,578 trades that took place. Shares of more than 235 companies were traded during the day, of which 143 emerged as winners comfortably ahead of 33 losers.
