Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) noted that the message given to Gotabaya Rajapaksa was not only for him but to the entire Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) government.
Addressing the media, yesterday (17) MP Mujibur Rahuman said some in Parliament are still trying to consolidate power by shifting the same heads around and this is pushing the country further into political crisis.
“The message should be understood properly, that is the message the people gave that day was to Rajapaksa and the entire SLPP government. If you think that you can consolidate your power by moving the MPs here and there again, it is a wrong interpretation of the people’s uprising,” he said.
He added that the people also went down in the history of the world as a country which chased a president away from his post. “When the rulers who are not sensitive to the people’s problems are appointed, they have to back down in the face of the people’s opposition. It can be considered as another milestone in world history, the event on 11 July. The message given by the people is important to everyone. The people of the country gave a message to the person who is waiting to be the president of this country in the future,” he added.
He added that if the future president of this country neglects the basic needs of the people, if they do some deals and other things, the people will not hesitate to throw them out.
