Case against Aeroflot dismissed

Colombo Commercial High Court Judge Sumith Perera, on Friday (15), dismissed the case, filed by an Irish company, against Russia’s Aeroflot airline, with costs.

The verdict was delivered by the High Court Judge, having perused a request submitted by Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam, when the case was taken up last morning.

The Court had imposed an enjoining order on 2 June, preventing the departure of a Russian Aeroflot airline, from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

The Court had imposed its enjoining order, based on a lawsuit filed by the Irish firm Celestial Aviation Trading Limited.

The firm stated that the said airline belongs to it and prayed the Court to issue an order preventing the airline’s exit from Katunayake, till it is able to make the necessary payments to them, which it owes. Later, having considered submissions, made in this connection by the AG, the Court suspended that enjoining order.
