Alumni refurbish Royal College IT Lab

The group of ’91 embarked on a project to renovate and upgrade the Main IT Lab at Royal College, to commemorate the completion of the half century of their lives!

Prabash Ranaweera and his dedicated team embarked on the project in March and their first task was to ascertain what needed to be done to upgrade the Lab with the latest technology.

They arrived at a cost of approximately Rs 26 million which the batch mates decided to raise through their own contributions and local and overseas contacts.

The fundraising effort was a great team effort with committee’s representing each continent established and embarking on a cohesive effort to raise the requisite funds in record time.

In parallel, the committee also had to source the necessary material and equipment during a very challenging period in the country.

The fact that they passed both these hurdles without much sweat speaks volumes for their commitment, dedication and hard work.

The ceremony of handing over the renovated Lab to the students of Royal College was held on 11 July with the participation of the Principal, Vice Principal, teacher-in-charge of IT.

Former Principal B Suriarachi, former Primary School Headmistresses Manel Wimalaratne and Attygalle and many other past teachers graced the occasion at the invitation of their grateful former students.

It was indeed a proud and poignant occasion for the batch mates of the group to give back to their Alma Mater, as they celebrate this milestone in their lives. Floreat Royal!
