Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe made a special statement this afternoon (15) after assuming office.
Accordingly, he noted that Parliament will meet next week and take the necessary steps to elect a new president.
Wickremesinghe added, however, that he intends on addressing and mkaing decisions regarding certain key matter uduring his short tenure as the Acting President.
As such, he noted that the term “His Excellency” will no longer be used when referring to the President, while the official flag of the President will also be abolished.
Further, Wickremesinghe noted that steps will be taken to fully implement the 19th constitutional amendment, protect parliamentary democracy and maintain law and order in the country.
