Media freedom under threat – FMM

The Free Media Movement (FMM), issuing a media release, said issuing orders to State-run media institutions to televise only programmes concerning the activities of protesters would set a wrong precedent here.

The FMM said they strongly condemn the forced takeover of the State-run Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and the State-owned Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) by a group of protesters demanding the resignation of the President and the PM on 13 July and then ordering management to only telecast protest content.

They said such demands by protesters is a blatant violation of media freedom and should be condemned.
