Kandy General Hospital racks up Rs 1.8B bill


During the convening of the Audit Committee of the Kandy Municipal Council (KMC) and at its deliberations it had come to light that the Kandy General Hospital has to make a payment to the tune of Rs 1.8 billion to the KMC for water and sanitary services.

Among those who had attended the deliberations of the Audit Committee meeting were Kandy Mayor Kesara Senanayake, Deputy Mayor Ilahi Abdeen, Opposition Leader Sena Dissanayake and members of the KMC. Deputy Mayor of the KMC Abdeen stated that the monthly bill of the Kandy General Hospital for water and sanitary services exceeds a sum of Rs 1 billion. He added that as people from around six Provinces are visiting the hospital they cannot curtail its operations hence the KMC has decided to officially inform the Secretary of the Health Ministry highlighting the need to carry out the said payment forthwith.

When contacted, the Acting Director of the Hospital Dr. Iresha Fernando stated that they have already made a payment of Rs 10 million and added that the balance would also be paid shortly.
