Issue Int’l Warrant for Gotabaya’s arrest

Leader of Britain’s Liberal Democrats Ed Davey has requested the United Kingdom (UK) government to work with its international partners to issue a warrant for the arrest of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Davey made this request during the urgent debate held at the British Parliament on Sri Lanka’s situation.

He said, “Horrible, appalling situation for the people of Sri Lanka has been brought about by the corruption of the Rajapaksa government, their populist and unfunded tax cuts and skyrocketing defence expenditure, their draconian police powers and the cronyism and corruption.”

Furthermore, he called for an economic package with the IMF with the caveat that such support should include: “An international arrest warrant for President Rajapaksa and his cronies.”
