China for SL Resolving Debt Crisis – Chinese FM

China supports relevant financial institutions in discussing with Sri Lanka and properly resolving Sri Lanka’s , China-related debts, China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin speaking at his regular press conference from Beijing on Tuesday (12 July 2022), the Chinese Foreign Ministry website yesterday (Wednesday, 13 July 2022) reported.

Currently Sri Lanka is having talks with the IMF, a multilateral development agency to restructure its foreign debt.

“We also stand ready to work with relevant countries and international financial institutions to continue to play an active role in Sri Lanka overcoming current difficulties, easing debt burden and realising sustainable development,” the Ministry website further quoting Wang said.

Wang was responding to a question asked by a Bloomberg reporter, where he was asked, “An economic adviser to the Sri Lankan Government said in an interview with Bloomberg TV that Sri Lanka is in discussions with Japan and possibly with China on the issue of bridge finance or bridging finance. Can the Foreign Ministry give an update on the talks between China and Sri Lanka over financial help or debt relief to Sri Lanka?”
