Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam yesterday (13) stressed that it cannot be expected that Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who had been waiting greedily for power during the past 30 years, will step down soon.
Rasamanickam said he met the protestors at the Galle Face Green on
12 July to discuss the current political and economic crisis due to the imprudent governance and mismanagement of the government.
He claimed as the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has two-third-majority, the Opposition has no power in Parliament, therefore, their demands and concerns were not heard properly in the House. It was the unity and courageous efforts of protestors had made President Rajapaksa step down, he added.
“Wickremesinghe who was enthusiastically waiting for power would not step down soon. With the stepping down of President Rajapaksa Premier Wickremesinghe must also step down. In case, it did not happen, he will take office as the President. All must unite to prevent this move. I have stated the nature of Wickremesinghe in Parliament clearly,” he noted. He said that setting fire on Wickremesinghe’s private residence must be condemned as well.
