Rajapaksa’s flight arrives in Singapore

Flight SV-788, believed to be carrying President Gotabaya Rajapaksa from the Maldives is reported to have landed in Singapore.

Rajapaksa, along with his wife Ioma Rajapaksa and two security officers, left for Singapore from Male last night (13), and are due to leave for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia foreign media outlets reported.

Rajapaksa is yet to resign from Presidency, despite his assurances to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena that he would do so on 13 July.

It is likely that he will hand in his letter of resignation once he has landed in Singapore claiming asylum, sources reported.
