President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not departed for Singapore on the scheduled Singapore Airlines flight from Male to Singapore.
Rajapaksa, along with his wife Ioma Rajapaksa and two security officers, were expected to leave for Singapore on board SQ437 from Male to Singapore last night (13), but did not board the aircraft due to security issues, a media outlet reported.
Moreover, securing a private aircraft for the embattled President is currently in talks, Maldivian Media reported.
Rajapaksa is yet to resign from Presidency, despite his assurances to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena that he would do so on 13 July.
It is likely that he will hand in his letter of resignation once he has landed in Singapore claiming asylum, sources reported.
