Protesters seize T-56 firearm & ammunition from Army Officer


A group of protesters have taken away a T-56 firearm along with two magazines from an officer attached to the Sri Lanka Army during yesterday’s (13) protests at the Polduwa Junction, near Parliament premises.

The soldier is believed to be stationed at the Wellawaya Army Camp, Police reported.

The soldier, and a Police Constable of the Kalutara Police, sustained serious injuries during the protests, and are currently receiving treatment.

While a complaint regarding the firearm and the 60 live rounds that were stolen was lodged at the Borella Police Station, investigations into the matter and its recovery are being conducted by both the Borella and Welikada Police Stations.

Meanwhile, a total of 84 persons were injured following clashes at the Polduwa junction and near the Prime Minister’s Office.
