Victory of ‘Aragalaya’ is the change the country needed – Eran

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) condemned the violence in front of the Prime Minister’s private residence on 9 July.

Addressing the media on 11 July, SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne noted that the victory of the 9 July Aragalaya is the change needed in this country, but there was one black spot, the violence near the Prime Minister’s private residence.

“We all want a change; let’s make this change together within the democratic framework. On 9 July, the people across the country sent a message that Rajapaksa politics is over. We met and explained this to the President face to face and we discussed and expressed our opinions that if there is a change in the country, it should be done within a democratic framework, but he was not wise enough to implement it,” he added.

Wickramaratne emphasised that the country should have a Government that can be accepted by its citizens, a Government that can be accepted by the international market, should be established.

“Otherwise we cannot get out of the problem we are facing now. That is why the people of our country fought for a Government that is acceptable to the international market. Discussions are going on to join other parties to form the Government and the leaders of political parties should do it within the democratic framework,” he added.
