JVP Central Committee Member, Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala said if Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe has an iota of sense, he should not allow the country’s political turmoil to drag on and instead should pave the way for the Speaker to become the Acting President.
He said from information available to him, those close to the PM were planning to allow Wickremesinghe to become the Acting President, rather than allow that position to be filled by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
Watagala warned such an underhand move could lead to an unprecedented political crisis, which could even lead to a bloodbath.
He asserted that the PM should step down forthwith to allow Parliament to form an All-Party Government, rather than hankering for posts, at a time when the Nation is mired in grave political and economic turmoil.
