Dubai low-cost carrier flydubai suspended operations to Colombo, Sri Lanka from 10 July, following mass protests in the country.
“We will continue to closely monitor the situation on the ground in Sri Lanka. Passengers who have made bookings on this sector will be contacted and offered a refund,” an airline spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways said there have been no flight cancellations, although some services will operate with a refuelling stop at Cochin International Airport in Kerala, India from 14 July.
Due to the jet fuel shortage in Sri Lanka, many airlines are compelled to make ‘tech stops’ in Southern India or ‘tanker’ to return to their respective countries. SriLankan Airlines and Emirates are yet to comment on this situation.
