The Tamil National Alliance insisted that both the President and the Prime Minister should step down immediately and only the President resigning from his post is a partial victory.
At a meeting held yesterday (12) at the Public Library in Colombo, organised by the Galle Face protesters, MP M.A. Sumanthiran said if Ranil Wickremesinghe didn’t grab the premiership, protesters could have achieved this victory two months ago.
“We can only speak at the meetings, but we cannot achieve these goals, and it was the people’s struggle that made these things possible. We will do what we can to bring a change. The General Election should be held immediately, as Parliament has lost the people’s mandate,” Sumanthiran added. He also pointed out that PM Wickremesinghe should not be allowed to be the Acting President even for a single day.
