Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said he is ready to lead the country. Premadasa noted that the opposition is ready to stabilise the country and to rebuild the country’s economy.
Making a special statement, yesterday (11), he said the mandate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Government, including the President and the Prime Minister, is now over.
“They got together and destroyed this beautiful motherland. We in the Opposition are ready to stabilise the country and provide leadership to the programme of rebuilding the country’s economy. We will appoint a Government led by a President and a Prime Minister. There is no alternative solution other than this,” noted Premadasa.
He stated that if anyone in Parliament opposes and tries to sabotage this attempt, they will consider it as an act of betrayal.
In the meantime, the members of SJB unanimously voted to nominate Premadasa as the next President.
The resolution was brought by the General Secretary of the party Ranjith Maddumbandara and it was seconded by the President of the party, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.
Meanwhile, Premadasa condemned with disgust the burning of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s house and pledged that a fair investigation would be conducted against all those involved in the incident and punishment should be meted out regardless of rank.
“We unconditionally oppose the destruction of property, arson and minor events that confuse people’s lives, by some opportunistic and disruptive groups under the guise of Aragalaya (Protest),” he added.
Further, he invited all the citizens to come together to work calmly and peacefully, securing democracy and keeping reconciliation in
mind since this is a very critical moment.
