Sri Lanka Opener Pathum Nissanka has been picked by Kandy Falcons to play in the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022.
Nissanka will now join his T20 teammates Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne, strengthening the Kandy Falcons.
Welcoming Pathum Nissanka, the Kandy franchisee owner Parvez Khan said, “Pathum’s inclusion will not only strengthen our batting but his recent experience playing in the Sri Lanka T20 team will be a huge asset to the team. I am sure the fans will be happy to see him in action for Kandy Falcons in the LPL.”
Pathum Nissanka is the highest ranked Sri Lankan batter in the International Cricket Council T20 batting rankings. He currently stands in 8th position.
Meanwhile, Kandy Falcons have also replaced Pakistan fast bowler Usman Shinwari who will miss the tournament due to an injury. Pakistan fast bowler Ahmed Daniyal will replace Usman Shinwari in the squad. Ahmed Daniyal played for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League held early this year.
The 3rd edition of the Lanka Premier League, Sri Lanka’s top most domestic T20 Tournament, will be held from 31 July to 21 August.
The games of the much-awaited competition will be played at the RPICS, Colombo, and the MRICS, Hambantota.
