The ‘Aragalaya’ was strong enough to send home a President who was hiding in a bunker and a person who had become Prime Minister covertly, said Jathika Jana Balawegaya (JJB) MP Dr Harini Amarasuriya.
Sri Lankans should be proud of themselves for launching a non-violent uprising for the first time in history.
Addressing the Media on Sunday (10) at the JVP headquarters, she added that even though Police and Army were doing their duty, it was clear that their hearts were with the protesters.
She also commented about the all-party meeting held on 9 July.
“At the all-party meeting, party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake presented the JJB’s proposals for the situation. It is necessary that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe resign with immediate effect and a short-term caretaker government be appointed,” she said.
She emphasised that the above proposals should be accepted to end the crisis in the country. She added that the struggle is not over until the people are relieved of their burdens.
General Secretary of JVP Tilvin Silva also addressing the media stated that the people of the country proved that their power is stronger than Gotabaya Rajapaksas’ military might. Silva further said. “Former Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had to resign because of the ‘aragalaya’.”
He added that the people will not be able to enjoy a true victory until the whole Parliament is changed, adding that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna still has Parliamentary majority and that the people’s new Government should be appointed within a short period of time.
