Both the UNP and the SJB condemned the arson attack on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence on Saturday (9) night.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa vehemently condemned the arson attack. In a statement, Premadasa stressed actions should be taken against everyone who were involved in the ‘shameless act’.

“We firmly believe the people who genuinely wanted a change and stood up for injustice never engaged in such activities. Some organised group, who want to bring up their own selfish agendas behind the curtain of the people’s struggle are carrying out these acts. We unconditionally condemn these,” he stressed.

UNP Chairman Wajira Abeywardene also condemned the arson attack. “The PM said he was willing to resign from the post after the Party Leaders’ meeting. However, some media twisted the PM’s statement with malicious intentions and led the mobs to attack the PM’s private residence. We vehemently condemn the arson attack,” he said.
