Probe into arson attack on PM’s residence handed over to CID

Investigations into the arson attack on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence last night (09) has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Accordingly, several teams are expected to conduct probes into the incident, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.

Earlier today (10), three individuals, identified as residents of Mt.Lavinia, Kadawatha and Galle, were arrested in connection with the incident.

Protesters broke into Wickremesinghe’s private residence located down 5th Lane in Colombo last night, following a clash with the Police and armed forces, setting it ablaze soon after breaking in.

Several individuals have, however, condemned the attack on the Premiere’s residence, claiming that all forms of violence should not be tolerated.
