Man killed in fuel queue, seven arrested


A group of seven suspects were arrested in connection with the killing of a 25-year-old person at a fuel shed in Maggala, Galle on Thursday (7) evening.

Accordingly, seven males, including the two main suspects, identified as area residents, were arrested by the Galle Harbour Police, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said

A man was killed in a fuel queue in Galle, increasing the country’s fuel queue death toll to 17.

SSP Thalduwa said the killing had been the result of a clash between two groups who were waiting in line. Four people had been injured in the scuffle and were rushed to the Karapitiya Hospital. One of them died on 8 July.

The deceased was identified as resident of Yatagala, Wanchawala.

A car, three-wheeler and a motorcycle were seized by the Police.  Galle Fort Police are investigating to identify and arrest more suspects involved, Police said.
