BREAKING: Police Curfew to be lifted

The Police Curfew which was imposed at 09:00 pm yesterday (08) is due to be lifted at 08:00 am today (09).

Curfew was imposed in Nugegoda, Mt.Lavinia, Negombo, Kelaniya and within the Northern, Southern and Central parts of Colombo, instructing the public to remain in their homes.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickremeratne further noted that travel between curfew-imposed localities is prohibited, adding that strict action will be taken against those who break police curfew.

The directive came hours ahead of the mass anti-government protests scheduled to take place today, after which several others, including the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), MP M.A Sumanthiran and SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa condemned the ongoing police curfew, adding that it was imposed only to stifle the citizen’s rights, with no actual legal provisions to support it.
