SLC hands over millions in donations


Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officially handed over the US$ 2 million donation it promised to the country’s health sector to purchase essential medicines yesterday (7 July). Out of the total grant, US$ 1 million was donated to the ‘Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children’ to buy essential medicines required for paediatric care for children, while the balance US$ 1 million was donated to ‘The National Cancer Hospital’ (Apeksha Hospital) to purchase essential medicines for the treatment of cancer patients.

Sponsorship for Commonwealth Athletes

SLC donated LKR 22.5 million sponsorship grant for the athletes taking part in the Commonwealth Games 2022. The grant was handed over to the Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe by SLC President Shammi Silva.

SLKR 100 million for the National Sports Fund

SLC donated a sum of LKR 100 million to the National Sports Fund. The grant was handed over to the Minister of Sports by SLC President. Anuradha Wijekoon, Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Janaka Sri Chandraguptha, Secretary, Ministry of Health, and Mohan de Silva, Honorary Secretary of SLC were among the participants at the ceremony held at the Ministry of Sports.

Yupun Abeykoon

Meanwhile, SLC President also announced support for Asia’s fastest man in 2022 Yupun Abeykoon, who became first man in South Asia to run a sub 10 second race in the 100m (9.96 seconds). SLC promised USD 50,000 per year for 2 years.

Director-General of Sports Amal Edirsooriya, Director General of Health Asela Gunawardena, Honorary Assistant Treasurer of SLC Sujeeva Godaliyadda, Ashley de Silva, CEO, SLC and Dr. Anwar Hamdani, Director, Medical Technology Services also attended the event.
